• Over the last 14 years, the Sun Village has helped over 2000 children of convicts.
  • Currently, around 130 children between the ages of one to eighteen reside at the Beijing Sun Village. The children come from all over China;
  • TheShanxi Xi’an Children’s Village plays host to some 90 children;
  • The Henan Xinxiang Children’s Village hosts 40 children;
  • The Long County Shelter inShanxi hosts 30 children
  • The Jiangxi Sun Village hosts 100 children
  • The Qinghai Sun Village hosts 60 children

To date, there are 6 Children’s Villages under the umbrella of Beijing Sun Village, including the organization’s headquarters. Together the 6 organizations are helping over 400 children.

 

1996
Ms. Shuqin Zhang established the first Children’s Village for children of convicts in Sanyuan Village of Dongzhou, Shanxi Province.

1996- 1999
Ms. Zhang set up three Children’s Villages inShanxi, which were later merged as the Children’s Village of Xi’an, Shanxi.

December 2000
The Beijing Model Children’s Village was established with the support of the China Charity Foundation.

August 2003
The Beijing Model Children’s Village was registered as a legal entity and renamed the Beijing Sun Village Research Institute for Helping Special Children.

May 2005
The Beijing Sun Village Research Institute for Helping Special Children was renamed the Beijing Sun Village Children Education Centre.

May 23, 2005
The Children’s Village of Xinxiang, Henan Province, was established with the support of the Women’s Prison of Henan;

May 26, 2005
The Long County Orphanage of Shanxi Province was established with the support of the government of Long County.

May 29, 2007
The Children’s Village of Jiangxi Province was established with the support of the government of Duchang.

June, 2008
The Children’s Village of Qinghai Province was established with the support of the Civil Affairs Bureau of Datong.
